Ella is a small mountain town in the badulla district of uva province, Sri Lanka, about 1000 meters above sea level. This area rich in bio-diversity with numerous varieties of flora and fauna. Ella is surrounded by hills covered with forests and tea plantations. The town has a cooler climate than surrounding lawlands. Town of ella is approximately 200 kilometres east of Colombo. It located on the Colombo-Badulla railway line, and the A16 highwaya a part of the Colombo-Badulla road. Train ride from Kandy to Ella is one of the most beautiful in the world and it’s definitely the best way to get there. Ella railway station is the 75th station on the main line. Though it is not a big place, there is plenty to do in Ella, from hiking trails to waterfalls or lounging at the cafes.
9 Arch Bridge
This world-famous bridge is located just outside of Ella town. With a small walk through the woods, you will reach a piece of beautiful architecture hidden between lush green tea fields. Nine arch bridge, built by the british. It is located between Ella and Demodara station. Bridge is 30 meters high. Trains pass the bridge about 6 times a day. The exact times might be change, but there should be one every hour. So you can have a coffee at nine arch bridge cafe, wait for the train to pass. Sunrise is the best time to visit the bridge. It is open to being visited during the whole day.
Litte Adam’s Peak
Most visitors to Ella come to hike little adam’s peak. Hiking destinations will give you beautiful sprawling views of the Sri Lankan country side. Little adam`s peak got it`s named after it`s big brother, adam`s peak, because of the similar shape. Little adam`s peak is 1141 m high and fairly easy to climb.
Ella Rock is a famous cliff, located high above Ella’s village. Every day, tons of travellers go and climb the Ella Rock. Way to Ella Rock is about 8 km long. Journey will take roughly about two hours. Ella rock offers fantastic views across the hill country, and the plains below.
Rawana Ella Falls
Sri Lanka is quite popular for beautiful waterfalls and Ravana Falls is right at the top. It currently ranks as one of the widest falls in the country. Rawana waterfall nearly 25m high. It have been named after the legendary character king Ravana, which is connected to the famous Indian epic, the Ramayana. Rawana ella is located 6 km away from Ella Railway station. You can also catch any bus heading to Wallawaya to go there.
